Looking forward to 2016

Some of the highlights we are looking forward to:

* More Judo in Bhutan

Jointly with our partner the Austrian Judo Federation (ÖJV) we will promote Judo in Bhutan! We have received generous support by the Austrian Sportsministry to spread the art of Judo in Bhutan. Soon we will have a second Dojo in Thimphu; plus we will run special Judo seminars for advanced Judokas and newcomers!

* Judo for Blind & visually impaired

We have another new partner on board! Jointly with the Blind Judo Foundation we will be exploring ways in promoting access to Judo for visually impaired and blind in Bhutan! Find out more about the Blind Judo Foundation here.

* Gently crossing borders through the art of Judo

We are connecting our Judokas with their international and regional peers! Here are some of the competitions and exchanges we are looking forward to.

South Asian Games 2016 in India in February 2016 - Our team is currently getting ready to participate in these important games! Keep your fingers crossed for our striving athletes!

Jita-Kyouei Cup 2016 in Japan in March 2016 - A long time due visit is finally going to happen for some of our athletes: a trip to the Judo Mecca. Some of our athletes will finally get a chance to visit and train in the Kodokan and in Kobe! Thanks to our crowdfunding campaign we managed to raise the funds to support our team members!

The 6th Children of Asia International Sports Games in Russia in July 2016 - Another chance for our Judoka to put their skills into practice and spare with partners from around Asia!

LOOKING BACK AT 2015

* THE UNITED NATIONS SPORTS FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE HAS ENDORSED US FOR OUR WORK

Wilfried Lehmke, the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development (UNOSDP), highlighted Judo Journey’s work! Check out the endorsement here.

* BHUTANESE JUDOKA ON THE ROAD: SINGAPORE, NEPAL & INDIA

One of our highlights last year was a fully sponsored invitation to join Jagsport’s annual Judo Championship in November! Some of our team members had a chance to fly for the first time and attend a tough Judo tournament in Singapore! Thanks to Jagsport Singapore and all the parents for sponsoring and hosting our team members!

To cross borders and connect our team with their peers in Asia, we have been collaborating with the Child Watabaran Centre Nepal (CWCN)  in Kathmandu, which is providing access to Judo for children and youth from disadvantaged families.

Our team participated in the International Judo Championship organized by CWCN in Nepal in April 2015. Our Nepalese partners enjoyed our hospitality during a Friendship Tournament in Bhutan in September. Check out of the matches here.

Our team also joined the Friendship Tournament with the Student Olympic Association in India in May 2015.

* AN OLYMPIAN COMES TO BHUTAN

The Olympian Judoka Sabrina Filzmoser (two time European Champion and World Bronze Medallist) from Austria ran a week long Judo workshop for Bhutanese Judoka and donated some much needed Judo equipment. Sabrina is further getting ready for the Rio Olympics in 2016!
